IMPLEMENTATION OF THE PROJECT
The Department of Public Health and Healthcare Management continues to work on the Building Academic Capacity in Global Health in the Eastern Europe - Central Asia Region (BACE) project.
To implement the project, the Department of Public Health and Healthcare Management used the materials of the Research Methods for Global Health seminar, during which the following lectures were held in order to build the capacity of the Department's faculty on pedagogical and methodological approaches: Descriptive Epidemiology (prevalence, incidence, mortality, morbidity), Statistics R 1: Loading, Introduction, Basics, Statistics 1: Variable Type, Descriptive Indicators, Statistics 2: Normal Distribution, Statistics 3: Confidence Interval, Statistics 4: t-test, Hypothesis Testing, Descriptive Epidemiology: Standardization of Incidence Rates. On their basis, a package of test tasks was developed and formed for the 3rd year students of the Faculty of International Students majoring in 222 Medicine.
On August 31, 2023, at the meeting of the Department of Public Health and Healthcare Management of the Ivan Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, Associate Professors Liudmyla Trushchenkova and Yurii Petrashyk reported on their participation in the international scientific and practical seminars "Research Methods for Global Health" and shared their knowledge and experience.

Liudmyla Trushchenkova and Yurii Petrashyk, Associate Professors of the Department of Public Health and Healthcare Management, completed an internship at the University of Georgia on March 26-30, 2023, as well as at the Shota Rustaveli Batumi State University in Batumi, Georgia, on May 21-25, 2023, namely, they took part in the international scientific and practical seminars "Research Methods for Global Health" held within the framework of the Building Academic Capacity in Global Health in the Eastern Europe – Central Asia Region (BACE) project.

During the seminars Research Methods for Global Health, lectures on the following topics were held to build the capacity of teachers on pedagogical and methodological approaches: ANOVA, Cause and effect relationships and their establishment, Identification and consideration of confounder variables, Validity and systematic errors, Correlation, simple linear regression, Multiple linear regression, Regression Models, Logistic Regression, Cross-sectional Studies, Longitudinal Studies, Case-Cohort Studies, Systematic Reviews, Survival Analysis, Outbreak Research/Clinical Epidemiology II, Fundamentals of Scientific Knowledge and Learning, Systematic Literature Search, Qualitative Methods/Mixed Methods Research, Fundamentals of Critical Appraisal, Systematic Errors in Publications, Introduction to Critical Appraisal Tools, Fundamentals of Scientific Writing, Systematic Errors in Publications/Publication Quality/Plagiarism, Fundamentals of Writing a Research Project Protocol/Documentation. Writing an introduction and research objectives. Each lecture was followed by a group discussion of the specifics of the curriculum and teaching methods. The participants discussed ways to improve the delivery of lectures and practical classes on the proposed topics of this course. At the end of the seminar Research Methods for Global Health, a package of recommendations was developed to improve the curriculum and teaching methods.

Based on the results of training and participation in international scientific and practical seminars Research Methods for Global Health, the methods and approaches to establish cause-and-effect relationships, identify and take into account confounder variables, establish validity and systematic errors, correlation, downtime and multiple linear regression, regression models, cross-sectional and longitudinal studies, case-cohort studies, systematic reviews, survival analysis and outbreak studies, as well as foundations of scientific knowledge and learning, systematic literature search, qualitative methods/mixed methods research, foundations of critical appraisal, systematic errors in publications, familiarization with critical appraisal tools, basics of scientific writing, systematic errors in publications/quality of publication/plagiarism, basics of writing a research project protocol/documentation, writing an introduction and research objectives have been introduced in the specialty Public Health (academic disciplines Use of Statistical Analysis Methods in Scientific Research (1st year), Current Issues of Disease Epidemiology in Ukraine and the World (1st year), Biostatistics. Population Health Statistics (1st year), Research Project (Master's Thesis) (years 1-2), Global Health (2nd year), Epidemiology of Non-communicable Diseases, Mental and Behavioral Disorders, and Suicide (1st year), Population Health and its Main Determinants (1st year), Fundamentals of Public Health (Introduction to the Specialty) (1st year), Fundamentals of Epidemiology (1st year) and writing a master's thesis, and in the specialty Medicine (discipline Social Medicine, Public Health (years 3-4).
